FIRST Robotics Support
I've been involved with FIRST Robotics since 2009, and it's been one of the most meaningful and impactful parts of my life. Over the past 15+ years, I've mentored teams, led organizations, and helped build the infrastructure that keeps events running smoothly. From working hands-on with students to shaping statewide initiatives, I know what it takes to help teams and volunteers succeed.
I currently serve as the Executive Director & Lead Mentor of Westside Robotics, where I guide students, and the adults that support them, through engineering challenges and plan for long-term program sustainability. As a Board Member for FIRST Indiana Robotics, I help shape strategy for expanding STEM education and mentor support across the state while also improving board operations through better systems and procedures. I also lead event planning and volunteer coordination efforts for competitions in my area and oversee the AV & Event Production volunteer group for the state, ensuring events run smoothly and create an engaging experience for teams and spectators alike. In my role as an advisor to Purdue FIRST Programs, I work with college students and alumni to strengthen mentorship pipelines, plan events, and develop resources for teams at all levels. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of how to build thriving, well-supported teams and events that provide real impact.
If you're looking for help navigating the challenges of running a FIRST team, mentoring effectively, or growing a sustainable program, I can help with:
- Team Development: Structuring leadership, recruiting and retaining students, and fostering a strong team culture.
- Mentor Training & Support: Helping new and veteran mentors work effectively with students, manage projects, and avoid burnout.
- Nonprofit Management: Guidance on running a sustainable nonprofit, including organizational leadership, fundraising, and governance best practices.
- Technical Skill Development: Support with programming, electronics, and systems integration across FIRST programs - basically everything but the hands-on design and building of FRC robots.
- Event Coordination: Organizing and running competitions, training volunteers, and ensuring smooth event execution at both the local and state level.
- Volunteer & Community Development: Helping individuals find meaningful ways to get involved at a higher level, whether through mentoring, event volunteering, or program leadership.
